World Mental Health Day - Prioritising Mental Health in the Workplace.
Today is World Mental Health Day, a crucial time to raise awareness and break the stigma surrounding mental health. This year’s theme, “It is time to prioritise mental health in the workplace,” underscores the importance of creating supportive, balanced work environments where employees’ well-being is valued and mental health is a priority.
At Myley, we’re proud to prioritise our team’s well-being to ensure a working environment in which everyone is happy and can thrive.
We asked our team for some feedback about how their mental health is supported at Myley, and a lot of key areas were highlighted:
Balancing Tours and Mental Well-Being
Our drivers appreciate the constant support we provide. Whether it’s being available at the end of the phone or offering flexible scheduling based on their availability, we ensure they feel supported.
‘They are always at the end of the phone if you need them.’
Engaging with residents during tours is not only fulfilling but also brings joy and relaxation, enhancing their overall well-being.
‘Being out on tours is very relaxing, it fills me with happiness and joy because I can see how much happiness and joy it gives the residents on their daily trips out.’
‘The actual process of engaging with residents as they negotiate their individual not-far-from-end-of-life journeys, and having the chance to help provide a supportive environment, is in itself an enhancing experience.’
Creating a Positive and Supportive Environment
We create a positive environment by encouraging communication amongst our team through WhatsApp. This platform allows them to welcome new staff, share experiences, and maintain a balance between professional and personal support. The close contact with management and positive feedback generates a happy and encouraging workplace.
‘The WhatsApp group allows Leaders to feel part of a team with a common goal of making people happy. If there are any issues, it is nice to be able to share these with our peers.’
This sense of community is invaluable in ensuring our team feels supported and part of a larger family.
Ensuring Mental and Emotional Support
Myley feels like a family, with every effort made to ensure our team is happy in their work. Regular check-ins and strong support, including quality equipment and uniforms, help maintain their mental and emotional well-being.
‘The office strikes just the right balance between professional (always there to deal with the process) and personal (fully engaged with the Tour Leaders as individuals, responding to the jokes as much as the problems)…It goes to the heart of the Myley ethos and is what we're all trying to present to the care homes.’
‘Everyone in the Myley team is incredibly approachable and has a positive attitude, which makes it easy to reach out and ask for support when needed.’
Managing Stress and Work-Life Balance
Myley helps manage stress and maintain a healthy work-life balance by fostering positive relationships with management. This allows team members to voice themselves when feeling stressed or overwhelmed. Additionally, the option to work remotely helps balance both work and home life.
‘Having a positive relationship with management allows me to be able to speak up when I am feeling stressed…Being able to work remotely also promotes a healthy work-life balance as you can better manage personal and professional responsibilities.’
We were delighted to receive such positive feedback from our team about the support they currently experience. At Myley, we're always striving to improve, so we actively sought their suggestions on how we can enhance our approach to employee well-being. Their valuable input has been noted, and we are committed to incorporating these ideas as we continue to prioritise the mental and emotional health of our team moving forward.
